Primary 4 visit the library

Primary 4 had an interesting start to the New Year and new term with a visit to the local library where they heard about how to use the non-fiction part of the library.

Fiction books are sorted in alphabetical order using the author’s surname and non-fiction books are sorted in numerical order. To find which number to look for, customers at the library can use the code-cracker chart on the wall beside the non-fiction books.

The children were given a task to do during the visit – each group was given a subject to look for and, having chosen a book, had to find a few interesting facts and then reported what information they found to everyone. Before heading back to school those pupils who had brought their library card (and that was almost everyone) chose new books to take home to enjoy. Look at our pictures to see what a busy visit it was.
